What is The Daniel Fast?
At Life Now Church, we want to begin the year together with the Daniel Fast. It is a 21-day, church-wide commitment to prayer, consecration, and spiritual renewal. This fast is an intentional act of worship where we set aside certain foods and comforts in order to seek God with focus, humility, and expectancy.
The Daniel Fast is not a diet. As a church family, we are choosing to follow the biblical model of the Daniel Fast together so that we may be unified in purpose and posture before the Lord. While physical benefits may occur, the purpose of this fast is spiritual. It is to draw nearer to God and align our hearts with His will.
Biblical Foundation
The Daniel Fast is rooted in Scripture and modeled by the prophet Daniel. In Daniel 10, Daniel entered a three-week season of fasting and prayer as he sought understanding and direction from God.
“At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips.” Daniel 10:2–3 (NLT) Daniel intentionally removed foods associated with indulgence and pleasure. His fast reflected a deep hunger for God and a willingness to deny himself physically in order to pursue spiritual understanding.
Our Commitment as a Church
During this 21-day fast, we will follow the Daniel Fast guidelines together. This means choosing simple, whole, plant-based foods and abstaining from meat, dairy, sweets, leavened bread, and processed foods, as well as alcohol and sweetened beverages. These boundaries are not about restriction for restriction’s sake, but about obedience, discipline, and spiritual focus. By following the same fast as a church, we create unity in our sacrifice and clarity in our purpose. This shared commitment allows us to pray with greater intentionality and walk through this season together.
A Season of Surrender
The Daniel Fast calls us to deny ourselves physically so that we can seek God more fully. It is a time to quiet distractions, remove excess, and create space for prayer, Scripture, and listening to the Holy Spirit.
As we fast together, our prayer is that God would renew our minds, strengthen our faith, and prepare us for what He desires to do in and through Life Now Church.
The Ultimate Daniel Fast website offers clear guidelines, helpful teaching, and practical support, including meal ideas, recipes, and planning tips to help you follow the Daniel Fast with confidence.
May this season mark the beginning of deeper surrender and greater dependence on Him.
